Oil and Gas
Through a series of projects for Statoil/Equinor since 2005, we have developed the 4DPlates software for global oil and gas exploration. This tool supports novel approaches to evaluation of basins and prospects through interactive co-visualization of multi-source geological data sets across multiple scales and resolutions, while being subject to plate tectonic movements through time. Compound Earth Simulator
The Compound Earth Simulator (CES) is a software environment developed for Statoil/Equinor since 2005 that provides a process-oriented approach to geological modeling. Starting by selecting dominant features in imported seismic interpretations, the user restores the geological area of interest back to the time of deposition by defining a sequence of process events in time and space. After populating the restored model with geological properties, the model is brought forward through time by reversing the chain of processes, thus reconstructing a complete model of the present-day geology that can be assessed by synthetic seismic imaging. Comparisons between the actually observed seismics and the model-generated seismic response give a strong indication of the model's quality. Due to its process-oriented structure, this approach allows easy experimentation and tuning of the model. CES allows systematic modeling of very complicated geological structures, and is widely used in the oil company for several E&P tasks, including well planning.
Source Rock Predictor
The source rock predictor is an interactive tool developed for Statoil/Equinor for simulation and visualization of source rock properties, taking into account deposition of both sediments and organic materials.
In collaboration with Lundin Norway, we have developed the Core Modeler to be a fully digital laboratory for handling CT scans of well cores, with particular emphasis on carbonates. In addition to state-of-the-art volume rendering of the digitized cores, the Core Modeler assists in quality assurance, integration, and calibration of the acquired data. Data analysis and visualization
Together with Aker BP, Kalkulo has developed the MetOcean software for interactive analysis of meteorological, climate, and environmental data. The software supports import and aggregation of transient geospatial data from a wide range of sources, covering both physical observations and quantities derived by means of numerical and statistical models. The purpose of the tool is to provide environmental and operative decision support in ice-covered waters. See also the technology overview.
Providing important functionality needed for business decisions that is lacking in the standard tools used by the wind industry, Kalkulo has developed the Torch software together with Statkraft. By interactive and totally transparent analysis of data acquired from all turbines in a wind farm, or even across a collection of wind farms, Torch delivers the insight needed for making the correct assessments and the right decisions. Through previous partnership in Center for Cardiological Innovation, a national center for research-based innovation, Kalkulo has collaborated with cardiologists at Oslo University Hospital in order to develop Pacertool. This software is used in the operating room during implantation of pacemakers to give the surgeon a mixed visualization of the patient's live x-ray imagery and live impedance measurements of the cardiac tissue draped on a geometrical model of the heart. The purpose is to identify the best possible location of the pacemaker electrodes for the specific patient.
Over several years, Kalkulo has been contracted by Setred to develop advanced visualization software for their stereoscopic 3D display. The resulting software tool, Samurai, is extremely powerful and has several features not commonly found in other visualization systems. Setred's display and Samurai system are targeted at the medical sector, delivering interactive visualization of patient-specific data to the surgeon in the operating room.
